OBJECTIVE: a benchmark for object-oriented active database systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although much work in the area of Active Database Management Systems (ADBMSs) has been done, it is not yet clear how the performance of an active DBMS can be evaluated systematically. In this paper, we describe the OBJECTIVE Benchmark for objectoriented ADBMSs, and present experimental results from its implementation in an active database system prototype. OBJECTIVE can be used to identify performance bottlenecks and active functionalities of an ADBMS, and to compare the performance of multiple ADBMSs. Ó 1999 Published by Elsevier Science Inc. Performance Evaluation of Object-Oriented Active Database Systems Using the BEAST Benchmark
This paper uses the BEAST benchmark to present the first comprehensive performance study of object-oriented active database management systems (ADBMS). BEAST stresses the performance-critical components of active systems: event detection, event composition, rule retrieval, and rule firing. Method invocation events and transactional events are taken into account. Four systems, namely ACOOD, NAOS...
متن کاملSAMOS in hindsight: experiences in building an active object-oriented DBMS
Active object-oriented database management systems incorporate object-oriented database technology and active mechanisms such as event-condition-action rules (ECA-rules). SAMOS has been among the first representatives of this class of systems. During the development of SAMOS, numerous then open research questions have been addressed. In this paper, we present a “historical” perspective of the S...
متن کاملEvaluations of Object Oriented Databases for Storage and Retrieval of BaBar Conditions Information
Object oriented database management systems have been evaluated as a possible means of storing and retrieving conditions information (calibration and geometry data) for the BaBar experiment. This paper describes the main features of object oriented database management systems and presents the results of benchmark performance tests on two commercial systems, Objectstore and Objectivity. Recommen...

متن کاملThe Real Benefits of Object-Relational DB-Technology for Object-Oriented Software Development
Object-oriented programming languages (OOPLs like C++, Java, etc.) have established themselves in the development of complex software systems for more than a decade. With the integration of object-oriented concepts, object-relational database management systems (ORDBMSs) aim at supporting new generation software systems better and more efficiently. Facing the situation that nowadays more and mo...
